A word or phrase that merely describes a type of product or service without referring to its specific origin. Such an expression cannot serve to distinguish the business origin and is therefore not eligible for registration as a trademark (e.g. 'mleko' for mlečne vyrobky). A term may acquire distinctiveness through use, but may also lose it through gradual generalization.
